How does a hair transplant work?

We are often asked “How does a hair transplant work?”This article will cover everything you need to understand about how a hair-transplant works.

What is a hair transplant?

A hair transplant involves the removal and addition of hair follicles from your scalp. This procedure is often used to treat hair loss due to injury, illness, or personal preference.

A qualified surgeon should perform a hair transplant. He or she should use a local anaesthetic. This means that you will not feel any pain during the procedure.

There are two methods. Follicular unit excision (FUE) is one method. DHI(Direct Hair Implantation) is the second. Learn more about the differences between FUE and DHI.

What are the stages to a hair transplant?

A hair transplant can be performed in 7 stages.

– Hair follicles can be harvested from different areas of your scalp

– A special punch tool is used to insert the special punch tool around each hair follicle. It can be done from either the side or back of your head.

– The punch makes an incision around the hair follicle.

– The hairs are removed gently and without causing any damage to the area

– The hairs that have been extracted are then harvested and prepared to be transplanted.

– The areas where the transplanted follicles are to be found on the scalp are marked with tiny needles.

– You have created your hairline and it will grow within 6 months.

Is a hair transplant painful?

No, a local anaesthetic should be administered by a qualified surgeon before any operation. This will ensure that you are not in pain or discomfort throughout the procedure.

Your new hairs will grow back in a matter of weeks. The Next Gen team will be in touch every day for up to 14 days following your operation, to remind you of the after-care process.

Your new hair grafts should be properly cared for. The Next Gen team will continue to remind you how to care for your hair transplant, however we recommend:
